There seems to be a recent trend of Lagos residents…
The portharcourt tree planting festival is a social Project organized by CleanCyclers in a bid to curb the effect of climate change and global warming and also restore the garden city of Nigeria. It is poised to kickoff on Monday, September 17th, 2018 at RSTV complex in Elelenwo, Portharcourt in commemoration of the world international day for the preservation of the ozone layer.
The ozone layer is getting depleted basically because of harmful gases we flare into the atmosphere. These gases don’t only deplete the ozone layer, they also affect human beings and animals in terrible ways. The issue of air pollution is no longer news, it’s now reality, especially in Rivers state where we have the carbon soot issue.
Our actions and inactions adds or reduce this problem in so many ways. We can change this narrative by planting trees because tree reduce carbon gases from our environment amongst other benefits.
We are the change we seek in our environment, if not you then who? If not now, when? If not here, where ?
We can and should in our little capacity make the desired change.
Practitioners like the Environmental and Health Officers should intensify efforts at enforcing, very strictly, the restrain of cutting of trees by everyone and anyone.
Citizens should be educated on the need to plant more and more trees to bring back our garden city..
Members of the public should report noticed infractions to the appropriate Environmental Authorities close to them.
What you put into your environment is what it will give back to you. So decide to take adequate care of your environment and you are sure of corresponding environmental health.
