Akure, Nigeria – All is set for the grand contest…
Governor Nasir El Rufai of kaduna state has been in the news recently over his decision that sack up to 21,000 teachers in Kaduna state who failed an examination set for Primary 4 pupils in the state. The thinking behind the test was to see how competent teachers in Kaduna state are and a pass mark of 75% was set. However, majority of teachers in the state failed the test and are about to be sacked.
The teachers are protesting their sack with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) led by its president, Ayuba Wabba and the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) supporting them. They had a protest in the state 2 days ago that turned violent with the NLC leader threatening a national strike if the governor sacks the teachers.
Governor El Rufai is insisting that the teachers are not good enough and to prove his point shared pictures of one of the scripts of the teachers that failed the competency test on Twitter:
We are putting these out in the court of public opinion for Nigerians to make their verdict. Here are some of the primary 4 competency test scripts conducted for primary school teachers in Kaduna State. pic.twitter.com/aMwRWPlh6f

Have a look at the script next:
Apparently, this teacher cannot comprehend English effectively
His attempt at letter-writing is poor even for a Primary 1 pupil
This teacher cannot tell us the important parts of a lesson plan
The Kaduna state government is currently in the process to employ new teachers to replace the ones to be sacked. However, the government says those fired are free to reapply in this new recruitment.
