Zimbabwe’s opposition leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, has died aged 65 after battling colon cancer for 2 years. The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) leader was for many years former President, Robert Mugabe’s biggest rival.
He became Prime Minister of Zimbabwe from 2009 - 2013 after post-election violence unleashed by ZANU-PF supporters threatened the future of the country. A unity government formed to end the violence with the arrangement ending in 2013.
Tsvangirai had been receiving treatment in South Africa and died on the day that country’s president and his associate, Jacob Zuma resigned as president.
