As the world cup gets closer, Australia has revealed its…
Nigeria’s D’Tigress have joined their male counterparts as African champions after overcoming a 14-point deficit to defeat the defending champions Senegal in a very entertaining final in Mali. The Senegalese got a strong start and won the the first quarter 18-12 and moved to a 14-point lead before Nigeria rallied to win the quarter 21-10 to end the half 33-28.
The Senegalese could not return to their rhythm from the first quarter as Nigeria locked them out and continued to score at the other end.
The game ended in a 68-45 victory for Nigeria to win their 3rd African title following victories in 2003, 2005 and 2017.This particular win is quite remarkable considering the fact that D’Tigress won all 8 games they played. Having conquered Africa, they will now take on the rest of the world at the FIBA Women’s World Cup in Spain next year.
Incidentally, Nigeria’s male team, D’Tigers are also current African champions meaning the country’s basketball is really on the rise.
