The world has been watching to see how President Robert Mugabe would react to the military takeover or coup (depending on your perspective) in Zimbabwe. Well, calmly and confidently is the answer. He is reported to have told the military that he is willing to step down as ZANU-PF leader in December but will only leave office when his tenure expires in 2018.
This has left the military confused as they do not want to remove him by force or harm him in any way. However, he is adamant about not leaving power. Mugabe is currently capping graduands of Zimbabwe’s Open University signifying that the military are willing to allow him remain in office for now at least.
This is his first public appearance after the coup.
