Kano-based music sensation, Ameer Hassan, who played under the stage name Lil Ameer or Lil A, is dead. The young upcoming rapper died on Thursday, 14 September in a road crash.
Lil Ameer, who began singing 4 years ago at age 9, had been a sensation In northern music scene in the last couple of year.
He was regularly featured on radio stations in Kano and environs and was widely tipped as the next big thing in rapping in Nigeria.
On how he started singing, he once said in an interview: “I was listening to one such song on one of the local radio station, all of a sudden, I just stood up and went to my mother and I told her that I wanted to sing, and that was how it all began. Being a little boy, I picked the stage name ‘Lil A’ a short form of little Ameer”
The rapping sensation, who has the backing of his mum, also said: “My mother has carefully scheduled my time (i.e between school and music career) in a manner that one aspect would not be neglected in favour of the other. I go to school from Mondays to Fridays and go to the studio on weekends when I have recordings to make. Similarly, I do go to Islamic school. In short, my time is properly scheduled and I make sure that I have not wasted any. Thanks to my parents for making their time in assisting me pursue my heart’s desire.”
His death came as a rude shock to many.
Ameer was buried today, Friday 15th September in Kano.
