Google is known for celebrating notable figures, historical events, milestones, monuments and so on with doodles. This time around, it is celebrating the legendary Nigerian author, poet, professor, and critic, Professor Chinua Achebe whose first and globally acclaimed novel, Things Fall Apart has continued to break records since it was first published in 1958. It is is the most widely read book in modern African literature, it has been translated into over 50 languages and has sold over 10 million copies.
His influence on African Literature is immense and some of his other notable works include: No Longer at Ease (1960), Arrow of God (1964), A Man of the People (1966), Anthills of the Savannah (1987) and There Was a Country: A Personal History of Biafra (2012).
Achebe won many prizes and awards including Man Booker International Prize, St. Louis Literary Award and Peace Prize of the German Book Trade. He would have marked his 87th birthday today.
