George Weah wins Liberia’s Presidential Election

51-year-old former Liberia and AC Milan star, George Weah has won the presidential election in Liberia. He defeated incumbent Vice President, Joseph Boakai, to become president-elect.

He had tweeted before the announcement: I am deeply grateful to my family, my friends, and my loyal supporters who contributed to our campaign during this extremely long election season. We are on the verge of making history for our people. #Liberia #Liberia2017 #ChangeforHope

George Weah is one of the greatest African footballers to have played the game and is the only one to have won the Ballon d’Or.

His victory over Boakai in 13 out of the 15 counties in Liberia has ensured an easy victory and cements his new career as a politician and stateman having gotten the mandate to become the president of his country which he has served so honourably over the years.
