The political strife in Kenya is far from over as…
While many are speculating that former AC Milan legend, George Weah might be the next president of Liberia after the country’s run-off election, one of his former club’s old players, Kakha Kaladze has already won his own election as the new Mayor of Tblisi, the capital of Georgia.
The 39-year old played for Milan between 2001-2010 winning 2 Champions League during hi stay there. He was also captain of the Georgian national team 83 times. He retired from football in 2012 while playing for Genoa to join politics full-time in his home country.
His career as a politician has been quite successful after joining billionaire tycoon Bidzina Ivanishvili to challenge then-president Mikheil Saakashvili. Ivanishvili’s coalition surprisingly won the election in 2012 and Kaldze became a member of Georgia’s Parliament. He was also appointed as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy. He maintained both positions until July this year when he decided to run for the position of Mayor of the capital city Tblisi, an election he has now won.
We are tempted to ask if AC Milan is a training ground for footballers that have interest in becoming politicians in the future. Time will tell if this is a trend or just coincindence.
