The folly of Putting Our Trust in Men Instead of God

The folly of Putting Our Trust in Men Instead of God

By Emmanuel Chiedu

Permit me to start this piece by telling a story I heard in church, I am sure the story isn’t real but the message cannot be truer.

A man climbed an Iroko tree in order to have a view of a faraway land; the man picked the tallest tree because he wanted the best view. When he got to the top, he stepped on a dry and weakened branch, but unfortunately, it could not hold his weight so he fell.

Luckily for him, he grabbed another branch, however he could not pull himself up. Having very little option, he began to call out for help. He screamed, “Help! Is anyone there?” He continued screaming but there was no one around.

Just as he asked again, “is anyone there please?” God knowing he was in trouble, answered. “Yes, I am here. Jump I will catch you”

The troubled man who could only hear a voice then asked, “sorry, who are you please?”

And He answered, “I am God, Jump I will catch you.”

The man thought for a while, then screamed at the top of his voice again, “Okay, but is someone else there please?”….

As funny as it may sound, many Christians are exactly like the man hanging from a tree. We are troubled with life’s problems but never seem to trust God enough with it. We prefer the help of our relatives and friends, the help of loved ones and never the help of God.

The Bible in the book of Galatians 3:9 said; So those who rely on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith. You cannot trust in God a little and trust in your uncle a bit more. Or trust in God but ignore his voice every step of the way. It doesn’t work like that.

Joshua 1:9 said; Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of a good courage; do not be afraid, nor dismayed: for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.

It is very simple, if you know your God, you will trust in him. Psalms 9:10 said; And they that know your name will put their trust in you: for you, LORD, have not forsaken them that seek you. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man. That is what the Bible said.

Proverbs 28:26 goes thus; Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered. The WISDOM there is God. Many have forsaken the ways of God because of one trouble of the other. Some have taken to alternate help because of lack of trust in God. Why not just trust in God, work hard and do His will? Just like the man hanging from a tree, you don’t know the lifeline He has waiting for you.

I encourage you, just as I encourage myself to trust in God more, men are full of disappointment, but that is not the way of the Lord. God bless you. Share to bless others.
