FAAN, Dana Blame Bad Weather for Port Harcourt Runway Accident

A Dana Airlines Aircraft 9J0363 flying from Abuja to Port Harcourt skidded-off the runway last night at the Port Harcourt International Airport,  no life was lost and there were no major injuries.

Famous Daunemigha a surviver of the crash, speaking to TVC noted that “the pilot was very brave,  I don’t know how he got us all safe”.

“I feel most of things can be avoided if these airlines stick to their time of flight.”

He accused Dana Airlines of combining too many flights and making planes fly to frequently on their different routes.

Meanwhile Dana Airlines have reacted to the incident on Twitter writing:

“Inclement weather Causes Dana Aircraft Runway Overshoot in PH On Tuesday, 20th February, 2018, one of our aircraft operating Abuja-PHC skidded off the runway at the Port Harcourt International Airport as a result of very stormy weather and severe winds upon landing.”

The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) in a statement released by Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu,  its General Manager,  Corporate Affairs supported the position of Dana Airlines,  the statement reads:

A Dana aircraft numbered 9J0363, flying from Abuja to Port Harcourt airport has overshot the Port Harcourt runway.

The incident was suspected to have been caused by a heavy rain, which was accompanied by strong wind and storm in Port Harcourt.

No casualty was recorded, as all passengers on board were safely evacuated.

These explanations may not be reassuring for air travellers in Nigeria as only recently, a Dana Airlines plane had its door opening midflight. The relevant regulatory agencies need to do more to maintain safety standards to avoid major catastrophe.
