New Cardiff City Signing, Emiliano Sala Feared Dead in Plane Crash

Former Nantes striker and new Cardiff City signing, Argentine, Emiliano Sala has been reported missing after the light plane he was traveling on across the English channel disappeared without trace. The Guernsey Police which oversees the area where the plane Sala was on is suspected to have been at the time of its disappearance have explained on Twitter:

“So far over 1,000sq miles have been searched by a total of five aircraft and two lifeboats. It is being co-ordinated by the Joint Emergency Services Control Centre. There has been no trace of the aircraft. The search is continuing.

“There are currently two planes, two helicopters and a lifeboat searching for the aircraft. No trace has yet been found. Conditions during the search last night were challenging, with wave heights of up to two metres, with heavy rain showers and poor visibility.

“Today the sea is much calmer, although visibility was good, it is now deteriorating. UK authorities have been calling airfields on the south coast to see if it landed there. So far we have no confirmation it did. Search continues. Decision at sunset about overnight search.”

The news has shocked the football community with Sala’s former teammates in Nantes postponing their French Cup match against L’Entente in honour of their friend.

Prior to his signing for Cardiff City the Argentine striker was having the best form of his Nantes career having already bagged 12 goals midway through the season.

There are increasing fears that Sala might have been killed in a plane crash but this is unconfirmed until the plane he was in is found and what happened to him is known.

A really sad day for football and on a personal level for Sala’s family, friends and fans around the world.
