Anthony Joshua Defeats Joseph Parker to Gain WBO Title

Anthony Joshua defeated Joseph Parker  last night in a unanimous points decision 118-110, 118-110, 119-109 to add the World Boxing Organization (WBO) championship to his WBA, IBF and IBO titles. This leaves the WBC title held by Deontay Wilder as the only major title that AJ does not hold.

Joseph Parker took Joshua to 12 rounds but his inability to cut in on the inside to do serious damage to the Briton who kept his opponent at bay with his jab.

The referee Giuseppe Quartarone was widely criticised for not allowing the fighters to fight on the inside, insisting they separate at the slightest coming together. This favoured Joshua who has the wider reach.

Anthony Joshua looks to be set to fight Deontay Wilder who is going to be a much sterner test than anybody else he has faced. He is confident though stating:“No risk, no reward. We can do it at Wembley Stadium or back here! Get Wilder in the ring and I’ll knock him spark out”.

Joseph Parker was magnanimous in defeat saying: “I was beaten by the better man. No regrets. Thanks for the opportunity, it’s been a great experience. I’ll come back stronger”. It will be interesting were the New Zealander goes from here.

Finally, we are on the verge of having an undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder should get in the ring next.
